This privacy policy sets out how National Rural uses and protects any personal information that you may give us when you use this website.

What information do we collect?

In general, you can use this website without giving us any information but we may collect the following information:

  • your name and contact information, including your professional status.
  • information regarding your personal or professional interests, demographics, experiences with our website and contact preferences in order to provide you with further information about our services.

What do we do with the information we collect?

We use this information to provide you with a better service and in particular for:

  • internal record keeping;
  • improving our products and services;
  • sending information to you which we think may be of specific interest; 
  • providing information to others if you indicate that you want to receive marketing material or similar information;
  • passing your details to the 14 consortium universities and related academic establishments.

We may contact you by e-mail, phone, fax or mail unless you have requested not to be contacted by any of these methods.

Direct Marketing

We would like to provide you with information from universities and member organisations which we think you may find interesting. This can include, for example, discounted offers for events. We may send such information to you by email, fax or SMS if you have requested to receive it, and unless you have requested not to be contacted by any of these methods.

Email marketing

We would also like to provide you with information by email, but we appreciate that email 'spam'  has become a problem in recent years.

Otherwise, when you provide us with personal information, we will ask you whether or not you are happy for us to send you this kind of information by email.

We will not transfer, disclose, sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties other than to the 14 consortium universities, related academic institutions and the wider university community unless we have your permission or are required to by law.

You may request details of personal information which we hold about you under the Data Protection Act 1998. A small fee will be payable.

If you think any information we have about you is incorrect or incomplete, please write to or e-mail us as soon as possible. We will correct or update any information as soon as possible.

The internet is not a secure medium. National Rural is committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect on line.
